Collection: Salt Lamps
Salt is a natural mineral that can generate small amounts of negative ions (oxygen atoms that are charged with an extra electron). Studies have shown that in high concentrations these negative ions can have positive impacts on the mind and body. Salt can also help cleanse the air by attracting the water molecules from the atmosphere around it, including any particles. As the salt lamp heats up, the water is released back into the air, but the particles are trapped. Effectively, cleaning the air of dust, pollen, smoke particles, animal dander and other allergens. Everyone will appreciate cleaner air, but none more so than hay fever and allergy sufferers.
Salt lamps are made of solid blocks of Himalayan salt and carved into a variety of shapes. The center of the block is hollowed out, and a light bulb that produces both light and heat is placed inside. Salt lamps emit a soft and calming glow.
In terms of air purification, salt is hygroscopic. That means it absorbs moisture. A salt lamp draws in water molecules that contain indoor pollutants, such as bacteria, mold, and allergens. They then become trapped in the salt and are no longer in the air.
Tip:
Leave the lamp on all day, only shutting it when you go to sleep for the best effect. Be sure to protect the lamp from moisture.
Choose the size of the salt lamp based upon the size of the room.
